The aim of Indigenous Studies 10 is to help students develop their knowledge, positive attitudes and cultural understanding about First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples.

Students will learn vital information about the land and the people who occupied Turtle Island (North America) prior to, and following contact with Europeans and settlers from other parts of the world. Indigenous peoples are an integral part of Saskatchewan’s history. Students will be introduced to the diverse groups of Indigenous people that make up the Canadian landscape and will explore First Nations, Inuit and Métis perspectives on identity, worldview, community, kinship, governance, treaties and economies in order to expand their knowledge and understanding.
Each student will be given the opportunity to expand their existing understandings of First Nations, Inuit and Métis cultures through readings, videos, journal reflections, and research assignments/projects that require critical thinking and collaboration. This course bridges culture and builds new understanding and respect for the many Indigenous cultures and peoples in Canada. This rich history of Indigenous peoples is important to our understanding of who we are as a nation, looking at the past to engage with the present and envision our future.
