Sask DLC offers Driver Education three times per year. You will receive 30 hours of live, online instruction and six hours of practice driving with a certified SGI-approved driving instructor in your area.
If you have already turned 16, you have the option to pay for private lessons directly with a driving school, which includes six hours of in-class instruction and six hours of practice driving.
Sask DLC Driver Education is a 30-hour, live online non-credit class that is offered to full-time online students with Sask DLC free of charge. Following successful completion of the course, students obtain their Learner Driver Permit by completing six hours of in-car practice driving with an instructor in their area.
Sask DLC offers three Driver Education sessions throughout the school year, with multiple time options for students to choose from. Classes are live synchronous sessions with an instructor Monday to Friday that students are required to attend. The Driver Education dates for the 2026-27 school year are:

In order to get your full Class 5 license, students need to have their learners license for at least nine months. Students at least 15 years old, registered as full-time with Sask DLC, and ready for their learners license can request a first time drivers form from Sask DLC which will allow them to go into any SGI Issuer to challenge the exam and get their learners license early to start this nine-month ticker.
If a student chooses this route, any fees will come at the student’s expense and students must still take the Driver Education program to be able to get their full Class 5 license. To request this form, email [email protected].
Students must be at least 15 years old when class starts and enrolled full-time with Sask DLC.
If Driver Education is done through a local school or Sask DLC, it is free.
Private lesson costs vary by driving school.
Sask DLC will email eligible students, aged 15 to16.5 years old, ahead of each Driver Education session start date. If you are older than 16.5 and wanting to participate in driver education, please contact your Academic Advisor to be added to mailing list.
Full-time Sask DLC students at least 15 years old and ready for their learners license can request a first time drivers form by emailing [email protected] to challenge the SGI exam and get their learners license early.
Exams will be proctored by the driving instructor.
Reliable internet connection and device to attend live classes and submit course work, including speakers or headphones.
Sask DLC will organize the in-person driver training with an instructor in your area.
