Kindergarten and Grade 1 at Sask DLC

Sask DLC offers high-quality, fully funded online Kindergarten and Grade 1 programs taught by certified Saskatchewan teachers.

Our Kindergarten and Grade 1 programs follow a Guided Learning model, combining live online classes with independent activities, hands-on activities, following Saskatchewan curriculum. This gives families flexibility while still following a structured schedule.

** Note: Kindergarten registration for the 2026-27 school year is open to children who are or will turn five years old in 2026.

How Does it Work?

Kindergarten

Our online Kindergarten programming blends play and structure in a Guided Learning model, so young students stay engaged, supported and excited to learn at home and online with their peers.

Kindergarten is a half-time program where students participate in live online classes for approximately 1.5 hours each day, Monday through Friday.

Live online classes focus on building connections and developing key numeracy and literacy skills through fun and interactive activities.

During daily live classes, teachers are able to build strong relationships with their students, keeping them engaged and adapting lessons to support each student’s learning needs.

Additional resources and activities are available to parents to extend their child’s learning beyond the live classes, allowing parents to support their child’s individual learning pace and engagement.

You can read more about our Kindergarten program here.

Grade 1

Our Grade 1 program builds on the Guided Learning model used in Kindergarten, offering a structured program that keeps students engaged, supported, and connected in an online environment.

Grade 1 is a full-time program where students participate in live online classes for approximately three hours (or half a day) each day, Monday through Friday.

Live online classes focus on building connections and developing key numeracy and literacy skills through fun and interactive activities.

During daily live classes, teachers are able to build strong relationships with their students, keeping them engaged and adapting lessons to support each student’s learning needs.

Learning is designed to tap into students’ natural curiosity, using meaningful, real-world connections across subjects so students can explore, communicate and apply their understanding in a variety of ways.

Additional resources and activities are available to parents to extend their child’s learning beyond the live classes, allowing parents to support their child’s individual learning pace and engagement.

Is there a cost?

There is no direct cost to families for students taking online courses through Sask DLC. Sask DLC invoices school divisions directly for students within their region registering in online courses.

This ensures that families have access to publicly funded education, wherever they choose to take their courses.

I love being a part of her learning. It's so neat to watch as she begins to understand new concepts and then uses those concepts or talks about them. We are both really enjoying the Sask DLC experience so far and it's really such a great fit for our family.

Parent Responsibility

As a parent or caregiver, you play an important role as a learning mentor in your child’s education.

While learning is guided by a teacher who provides regular online instruction, feedback, and support, your encouragement and involvement help create the conditions for your child to succeed.

This includes:

  • helping your child log into live online classes

  • encouraging participation

  • supporting independent and offline learning activities

  • helping establish consistent routines at home

You can also stay connected to your child’s progress at any time through our online portal, support goal setting and time management, and communicate regularly with teachers through Teams, email, and parent-teacher-student conferences.

Your involvement - whether it’s offering encouragement, helping with schoolwork, or celebrating progress - makes a meaningful difference in your child’s learning experience and overall success.

How To Get Started as a Sask DLC Student

Gather documents

During the online registration process, you will need to provide a birth certificate and three documents showing proof of Saskatchewan residency such as a Saskatchewan health card, driver's license or other documents with your name and address (i.e. utility bill).

Register

If you are registering more than one child, each child will need to be registered separately.

Registration confirmation

Registration typically takes between two to five days to process, depending on the time of year.

Once your registration is processed, the student and parent/learning mentor will receive an email confirmation along with login details for DLCgo, our course platform.

Teacher contact

Your teacher will contact you to introduce themselves, get to know you, review your coursework and answer any questions you have. Kindergarten students and parents will be provided an orientation within the first few days of school.

You can also schedule a meeting with your teacher throughout the school year, through your DLCgo dashboard.
